Notes from the Post-it Wall | Week of November 16, 2025

• My ex-nephew (the worst lingering part of the divorce is having to title the nephew that way) turns 12 years old today. While I understand how time works, it’s rattling my brain. Because it’s been a few years since I’ve seen him now. And I miss getting to know him. I wonder if his 12-year-old brain is as hungry and tortured as mine was. Happy birthday, kid. Divorce sucks. Avoid it at all costs. Stay single.

• A fresh haircut and fresh bedsheets on the same day is proof that sometimes life works out just fine.

• Typically, I don’t like to put bad energy out there or revel in the failure of someone’s art. However, I’m really enjoying seeing how Wicked: For Good is being decimated in reviews. I think Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, and their disturbing symbiotic performative romance needs to be taken down a peg or two.

• I got a book royalties statement from Amazon today. $0.00. I am a true artist.

• It’s been sixty-two years since President John F. Kennedy was assassinated. Let’s honor him by remembering his immortal words from the American University commencement speech he gave five months before. “So, let us not be blind to our differences—but let us also direct attention to our common interests and to the means by which those differences can be resolved. And if we cannot end now our differences, at least we can help make the world safe for diversity. For, in the final analysis, our most basic common link is that we all inhabit this small planet. We all breathe the same air. We all cherish our children's future. And we are all mortal.” In June of ’63, he was talking about tensions between the U.S. and the Soviet Union. Today, the words ought to be applied to the tensions between Americans.

•  How many parents use the drive to school as an opportunity to educate their young children about the impact of Snoop and Dre’s masterpiece “Ain’t Nuthin’ but a G Thang?” Just me? Dope.
