Notes from the Post-it Wall | Week of May 18, 2025
• When that India-Pakistan war began, Americans were pretty quiet. No flags, no protests like we had with the Ukraine-Russia war. Why? It can’t be for a lack of Americans being affected by it. There are ~680,000 Pakistani-Americans and ~4.8 million Indian-Americans living in the United States. A greater chunk of the population than the ~1 million Ukrainian-Americans living here. So, why no fuss? The only explanation is American Racism. Americans don’t like Indians or Pakistanis. Simple as that.
• It’s a fool’s errand to spend time with people who think little of you. Charm them or fuck off. But, also, consider why they have a low opinion of you? Do they just not get it or are you just an asshole?
• Cut the cords. Not because of a difference in politics or religion or music tastes, but cut the cords when that person gives you chronic bad vibes. You don’t need them. There are plenty of other people out there to disappoint you in new ways. Keep that annoyance fresh.
• You can’t force anyone to be the way you want them to be. So, give them permission to be who they’re going to be and then decide if they’re worth the trouble.
• Trying to improve is the true sign of a brave person. Demanding their foibles fit into your daily structure is not bravery, it’s bullying.
• Celebrate the good people in your life. Even the smallest things like saying, “I appreciate you,” can make a world of difference.
